Design and Development Philosophy
Sweetheart Lake will deliver sustainable electricity to power Juneau’s economy and families now and into the future. Hydropower is Juneau’s cleanest energy source. The development of this facility has painstakingly worked to ensure that wildlife and fisheries are protected.

On September 8, 2016 the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a 50 year license to Juneau Hydropower to construct and operate their Sweetheart Lake hydroelectric facility. This represents the culmination of over 7 years of research, planning, and design in the application and approval process. This effort would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts between Juneau Hydropower and its partners as well as many state local and federal agencies. Just as important was the overwhelming outpouring of public support.
Construction is slated to begin in 2020. Regular updates on construction progress will be posted on the juneauhydropower.com site.
